Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia has apologised after smashing his driver in anger through the last spherical at Augusta on Sunday.
Paired with fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm, Garcia slammed his membership into the turf twice after hitting a shot that ended up in a bunker on the par-five second gap.
The 2017 champion then hit a close-by cooler, which snapped the head off his membership.
“I wish to apologise for my actions on Sunday on the Masters event,” Garcia stated in a press release posted on X., exterior
“I respect and worth every part that the Masters and Augusta Nationwide Golf Membership is to golf.
“I remorse the way in which I acted and it has no place in our sport. It would not mirror the respect and appreciation I have for the Masters, the patrons, event officers and golf followers world wide.”
As a result of the membership was broken out of anger, Garcia was unable to interchange it, leaving him with no driver for the remainder of the spherical.
Geoff Yang, chairman of the Masters competitions committee, issued a code-of-conduct warning to Garcia on the fourth tee.
